Women and Girl Sexual Violence Data

Women and Girl Sexual Violence Data

SERUTVCOM - According to a new report from the United Nations (UN) released in March 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant increase in sexual violence against women and girls worldwide.

Here are some key findings from the report:

- Lockdowns and other COVID-19 response measures have led to a "shadow pandemic" of increased gender-based violence, including sexual violence, against women and girls.

- Data from around the world shows that reports of domestic violence and sexual violence increased by up to 30 percent during the pandemic.

- The report notes that sexual violence is often used as a tactic of war, and that conflicts around the world have resulted in high levels of sexual violence against women and girls.

- Women who experience sexual violence often face stigma, shame, and social isolation, which can make it difficult for them to come forward and seek help.

- The report calls on governments and the international community to take action to prevent sexual violence against women and girls, including through the provision of services for survivors, the collection of data on the issue, and the implementation of laws and policies to address sexual violence.

Overall, the new data shows that sexual abuse against women remains a pervasive and serious problem, with the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbating the issue in many parts of the world.(nas)
